Break Bread With Us

Southwestern Louisiana boasts a myriad of Cajun cuisine, named for the French-speaking Acadian people native to the Acadiana region of Louisiana. The native food could be considered rustic, relying heavily on seafood from the Gulf of Mexico; locally available ingredients and simple preparation. Enjoy an authentic Cajun meal in one of our hometown restaurants. Several of your food options are within walking distance from our Cottages.

COOPER STREET COFFEE

214 Cooper St
Jeanerette, LA 70544

Your morning wouldn't be complete without a visit to Cooper Street Coffee. Built in 1925, this building once housed the historic Louisiana Public Service Company. Admire the handcrafted millwork, while you enjoy a cup of joe and a homemade biscuit.

THE YELLOW BOWL

19466 LA-182
Jeanerette, LA 70544

Open since 1927, generation after generation, the Yellow Bowl is still serving up the most authentic Cajun cuisine in this area. Off the beatin' path, restaurants like this one are the backbone of Cajun country and perfect for understanding our culture and community.

T-bob’s seafood

806 Main St
Jeanerette, LA 70544

No small town would be complete without that hole in the wall place that locals frequent, for Jeanerette that's T-Bob’s. Takeout only, T-Bob’s serves up a Louisiana staple - boiled crawfish, shrimp, and crabs (seasonal). A must-try in these parts!

LEJEUNE'S BAKERY

1510 Main St
Jeanerette, LA 70544

Can't get a full meal here, but when the red light is on, pop in for a WARM loaf of LeJeune's famous French or ginger bread. Established in 1884, five generations have been baking french bread out of the same brick ovens their ancestors did over 100 years ago.

Activities in the Jeanerette Area

Known as the "Sugar City," Jeanerette's economic driver is growing and milling sugarcane, hosting two active sugar mills. Nestled on the shores of the Bayou Teche, it's a little slice of peace and quiet. Here's a small sampling of the things you can do in and around the surrounding area.

Relax

Have a beach day at Cypremort Point State Park located on the Vermilion Bay and less than ten miles from the Gulf of Mexico. This popular spot is great for those looking to picnic, beachcomb, swim, observe local wildlife and take advantage of some of Louisiana’s best saltwater fishing. Don’t forget to stay for the beautiful sunset!

LEARN

Visit one of the many historical sites in Jeanerette; including Albania Plantation, Jeanerette Museum, St. John the Evangelist Church (erected in 1909), The Shadows (pictured above), the Wedell-Williams Aviation & Cypress Sawmill Museum, and the Chitimacha Museum to immerse yourself in Cajun culture.

Explore

Drive the Old Spanish Trail, adorned with 100+ year old oak trees; the cities along this route shared a heritage of Spanish colonies. Visit Avery Island, home of Tabasco, Jefferson Island, Lake Fausse Point, Cypress Bayou Casino, and don't forget to look for the red light at LeJeune's Bakery for your warm french bread!
